Local Branches

The Institution Board/Council recognizes and establishes appropriate Branches throughout Papua New Guinea with the objective to:

  1. Enhance the character and status of the engineering profession and advance the interest of the profession of engineering and those engaged therein;
  2. Promote honorable practice and mutual respect, and to decide all questions of engineering practice and issues affecting Members of the Branch;
  3. Provide opportunity for continuing professional development and promote fellowship among Members; and;
  4. Promote engineers involvement in charity and community development.

The Branches are meant to cover engineering professionals working in the area. The residing members elect a Committee who manage the activies of the Branches. Below map of Papua New Guinea shows the current established Branches and the areas it covers:

Branch Zones

The Branch Committee is comprised of volunteers and is divided into two groups, the Executive Committee and the Committee with another group who take up a role on their own interest to help with Branch activities who are the Volunteers.

Executive Committee: Comprises of the Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary. They are tasked to approve proposed activities, allocate budget, secure funding and monitor the implementation of the activities.

Committee: Comprises of Members of the Branch who are elected / appointed during the Branch Annual General Meeting (AGM) or by the Executive Committee to carry out specific task for the branch and also propose activities to be approved by the Executive Committee.

Volunteers: Whenever there is a need to help with execution of Branch activities, the Committee reaches out to any engineer or able minded professional who is interested to take part in the activities.

POM Branch

 

The Port Moresby Branch was established in 2002 and is the most active branch. It covers the Central and National Capital District Provinces.

The Highlands Branch was established in 2018. It covers all the Highlands region namely Enga, Western Highlands, Eastern Highlands, Chimbu, Southern Highlands, Jiwaka and Hela provinces.
